Content Strategy

WordPress Content Strategy by Webdirexion

Content strategy refers to the planning, development, and management of content—written or in other media. The term is particularly common in web development since the late 1990s. It is a recognized field in user experience design, but also draws interest from adjacent communities such as content management, business analysis, and technical communication (Wikipedia).  At Webdirexion, we believe that there are some other key components that inform Content Strategy, including Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) and here we write about these key concepts for smart marketers.

“To make strategic recommendations about content, you need to understand the business. If you don’t, you’re more likely to recommend solutions that don’t help the company achieve its business goals” — The Content Strategy Toolkit, by Meghan Casey

Note that this page itself is a good example of the WordPress Content Strategy we advocate for clients.  WordPress automatically creates both category and tag pages — this is one such category page.  Google tends to rank some of these pages highly and we noticed an upward ranking trend for this one.  Since it is a key service focus, we then decided to further enhance content and follow a “keystone content” strategy that involves both onsite and offsite linking to it.  We are able to customize such “archive” pages in WordPress in order to add more SEO-rich content and further boost the page.
