As Google morphs away from being just a “search engine” (seems so 2000′s), and into an integrated content machine with Google+ at its core, more and more marketers are realizing the value of the total package. And with the range of new tools in this “kit” from Google, the trick is not only awareness of what’s possible, but using same in new and powerful ways…
I’ll be doing a workshop on Google+ at the third annual Content Marketing Strategies Conference in Berkeley, CA next month, and we use advanced tactics on Google+ for our Webdirexion social media campaigns, so I want to keep you updated on our blog here with ideas and brainstorms on powerful ways to use Google. Note I did not say “Google+”. That’s your first lesson. Google+ IS Google. It is now interwoven into everything Google with more features added as Google morphs into something very much beyond the quaint search engine it was only a few years ago. Here, then are some initial tips and tacticsto get you thinking more about Google+/Google opportunities:
Success Tactics with Google+ For B2B Marketers
- Embrace the total package: Google now = Circles + Communities + Local Business pages + Maps + reviews + Hangouts + Recordings of Hangouts + YouTube + Chat + Gmail + Mail direct to Circles… and you repeat all that in a kind of mashup of a large engagement circle. It’s what Google is now. You can’t do this with any other network or tool set.
- Circle the winners: Find those you want to engage in your industry — colleagues, thought leaders, prospects — and put them in circles. Then… engage them. Promote them. Send an email to them. Hold an impromptu hangout with them. Use the system. Save the hangout to your YouTube channel.
- Communities + Hangouts + YouTube Channel: Ok. Let’s focus on this opportunity for just a moment. The idea is you create a community, like our “Content Marketing Power” community on Google+ (whoops… I mean on Google). Then… you can schedule a video-chat hangout, or just do an impromptu one. Select the “Hangouts On Air” option (see short video below) and you’ll record your video straight to your YouTube channel.
That should get you started. Want to learn more by just doing it? Join our Google Content Marketing Power Community, where we plan a series of upcoming Hangouts and discussion on this, and watch for more posts on Google+ for B2B Marketers (ok… it’s still called “Google+” for now, but soon it will just be Google — you watch).
